THE FARM
We’re bringing food production and health FULL CIRCLE, because the health of our food is determined by how it’s farmed. Our mission is to run a farm that regenerates the environment, produces products that nourish the human body, and to get eaters to know their food and their farmer.
You know the mantra, “you only have one life, so live it to the fullest”?
That suddenly clicked after spending 11 years working and living in a way that didn’t feel meaningful. Six months after this realization, we parted with our business and belongings to recreate a life in the Azores that was more aligned with our dreams and aspirations.
João was born and raised in São Miguel and farming ran through his veins since childhood. Gena was born in California to Azorean parents and dreamt about one day doing impactful work in the place that made her happiest – the Azores.
The Farm was born out of this passion and we’ve been able to bring together Joao’s farming experience and Gena’s background in health, development, and environmental sustainability to build a holistically managed farm that takes into consideration the welfare of the animals, the environment, and the local and global community.
Now we feel aligned with our “life purpose” and this fuels us to get up each morning and do the hard work that comes with providing nourishing food for people’s tables.
Would you like to milk a cow, taste raw milk and cheese, get immersed in the green of our island, see first-hand what it’s like to be an Azorean farmer, and have a truly authentic experience?
Then come and visit our farm! We are a small farm in Achadinha located in the northeastern side of São Miguel in the Azores islands of Portugal. We have 40 cows, heifers, and calves that graze on green pastures all year round and soak up the sunshine. We are happy to tell you why our sustainable production model results in healthy cows and high-quality products.
We are open by reservation from March to November. Hope you can visit soon!
The tour starts between 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. depending on the time of year and typically lasts 2.5 – 3 hours.
A 15% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm a booking.
